About Australian Shepherds

Australian Shepherds are renowned for their striking beauty, keen intelligence, and unwavering loyalty. Originally bred for herding livestock, they possess a strong work ethic, boundless energy, and a desire to please. Aussies are incredibly versatile and excel in various activities, including:

  • Agility and Dog Sports: Their athleticism and quick minds make them top contenders in agility, flyball, and obedience.
  • Family Companions: With proper training and socialization, they are devoted and loving family members, excellent with children and other pets.
  • Working Dogs: Many still thrive in their traditional roles on farms and ranches.
  • Therapy and Service Dogs: Their intelligence and empathetic nature make them well-suited for these important roles.

They typically weigh between 40-65 pounds and stand 18-23 inches tall. Their striking coats come in a variety of colors including blue merle, red merle, black, and red, often with beautiful copper and white markings.

Our Philosophy & Breeding Practices

At Australian Shepherd Pups, our commitment is to responsible breeding practices that prioritize the health, temperament, and well-being of our dogs above all else.

  • Health Clearances: All of our parent dogs undergo comprehensive health testing for genetic conditions common in the breed, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, eye diseases (CERF), and genetic mutations (MDR1). We provide full transparency regarding all health certifications.
  • Temperament: We carefully select our breeding pairs based on their stable, friendly, and outgoing temperaments to ensure our puppies inherit these desirable traits.
  • Early Socialization: Our puppies are raised in a loving home environment, exposed to various sights, sounds, and experiences from a young age. This includes early neurological stimulation (ENS), exposure to children, other animals, and different household environments, fostering confident and well-adjusted puppies.
  • Nutrition: We feed our adult dogs and puppies high-quality, species-appropriate nutrition to support their growth and overall health.
  • Veterinary Care: Each puppy receives regular veterinary check-ups, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a thorough health examination before going to their new homes.
